What should I wear to my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic or sports clothing that allows for flexibility and movement. You’ll want something that won’t get caught during training, such as a fitted t-shirt or rash guard, and athletic shorts or leggings. Avoid loose clothing as it can interfere with your movements.

Please note that shoes are not permitted on the mats, so we ask that you remove them at the door upon arrival to keep the training area clean and safe.

Long hair should be tied up to prevent it from getting in the way, and please remove any jewellery (earrings, rings, etc.) before class to avoid potential injury.

If you have a gi and plan to attend a gi-focused class, feel free to bring it along. But don’t worry if you’re new to Jiu Jitsu – we will help you get started, and there are plenty of options for beginners, including no-gi classes.

What is 'Gi' and 'No-Gi' in Jiu Jitsu?

In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, 'Gi' refers to the traditional uniform that practitioners wear, consisting of a jacket and trousers, which provide grips for certain techniques. 'No-Gi' training is done without the Gi, typically in athletic wear like rash guards and shorts. Both are integral parts of Jiu Jitsu, and we offer classes for both types.

How long will it take to get good at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Progress varies from person to person. With consistent practice, you can expect to see improvements within a few months. It’s a journey, and everyone progresses at their own pace. To make the most progress, we recommend attending class 2–3 times a week, but we offer classes 7 days a week to accommodate your schedule.

Is Jiu Jitsu safe?

While Jiu Jitsu is a contact sport, safety is always a priority. Our coaches ensure that techniques are taught correctly and students spar in a controlled manner. Injury prevention is a core part of our training, and we encourage mutual respect between training partners. Proper technique, communication, and listening to your body are essential to maintaining safety on the mats.

What is the belt system in Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu follows a belt progression system starting from white belt and advancing through blue, purple, brown, and black belts. Each level requires dedication, skill, and time.
